Dedication
Kevin put the following dedication in the front of the script to Beneath the Upper Room:
| THIS PLAY IS LOVINGLY AND GRATEFULLY DEDICATED to my wife, Janelle; my Mom, Barbara Reese; my sister, Tina; my sisters-in-law: Jill, Cindy, and Betty Jo; my aunts: Bonnie, Betty, Cathy, Colleen, Deanna, Elizabeth, Louise, Lucille, Marge, Marilyn, Nancy, Ruth, Sharon, Shirley, Sis, and Sue; my grandmothers: Wanita Reese and Margaret Weaver; and Edith Gittinger – and all the other women in my life who showed their love by doing what they did best: caring for, ministering to, and loving the people in their lives. This play is the result of my memories of countless Thanksgiving dinners, family reunions, church potlucks, and summer picnics where the women were all in the kitchen– together– cooking, socializing, and solving all the problems of the world. There was never any doubt about who was the REAL heads of their houses. |
Kevin's Mom had 17 brothers and sisters, his Dad had 7. That means he had 48 aunts and uncles! They all had kids-- so you KNOW their family reunions were HUGE.
When he talks about those family reunions being the impetus for his play, you know he had a lot of material to work with!
This page is dedicated to all the women he mentioned in his dedication. Most of them have passed on by now, but they live on through their kids and grandkids (and Kevin's memories).
