Costume Sources
- CHECK YOUR OWN INVENTORY - Ask someone who has been with your church a LONG time if they remember any robes and/or tunics from previous pageants, Church or Sunday School programs. If all you can find are children's sizes, perhaps you can alter them for your adults.
- BORROW, RENT, OR BUY - Chances are good that if your church doesn't have a lot of Biblical Era robes and tunics hanging around somewhere in a closet, a neighboring church or parochial school does. Other good resources for Biblical costumes are local High School, College or Community Theatres (ask them if they have costumes for "Jesus Christ Superstar" or "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat." Be prepared to pay a rental fee, ($5 - $25 per costume?) depending on your relationship with the organization.
- MAKE YOUR OWN - Simplicity has a few pattern packages that are perfect for this time period (see list, above). If your local sewing store doesn't have them in stock, a Google search can have them in your home within a week.Keep in mind, it takes a LOT of material and can easily run $400 just for fabric.
- PREVIOUS PRESENTERS - On the BTUR website, in the "Now Showing" section of the menu, we keep a list of all the churches who have presented BTUR. Just scroll down the list of churches that have previously produced the show and you can most likely contact them and see if you can borrow/rent their costumes. Keep in mind that Easter time is a busy time for such costumes, so plan ahead and contact them early.
- COSTUME SUPERCENTER - Online site for lots of costume ideas. They have a few womens Biblical/Religious costumes that might work for you. Also check out their sandals for $24.
